You heard it correctly! Our very own Newcastle upon Tyne has been shown to be the best place for staycations according to a new study!

As we look for more Staycations throughout the year, the study, done by bingo site Tombola, calculated public green space, budget-value hotels and attractions by the number of tourists and individuals in each of the locations.

The cities were then given a score out of 10 and ranked. Following Newcastle and York the list had Dover in third place followed by Brighton, Inverness, Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Reading.

Google search analysis also showed Newcastle to have a large number of hotels for the number of tourists – equating to 8,294 tourists per budget-friendly hotel compared to a whopping 45,020 tourists per budget hotel in London.

The study can be found on Tombola’s website, which you can view by clicking here.

A great result for the city, which is slowly returning to normality following the Covid-19 pandemic. Most hotels and restaurants are operating at reduced levels, ensuring Government Guidance is adhered to. More information about how Hotel Indigo and Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill Newcastle is adhering to this can be found here.

What to do in Newcastle?

Did you know the TV show Vera is filmed around the North East? You can do a tour of some of the key locations throughout Newcastle, Gateshead, North Shields and Whitley Bay. More information can be found here.

The Marks and Spencer Original Penny Bazaar in the Grainger Market is the last surviving example of the shops that gave birth to a legend in retailing. This is less than a five minute walk from Hotel Indigo, definitely worth a visit!

What about a trip to Leazes Park for an hour or two?  Newcastle city centre‘s oldest park with a tranquil lake and a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life to feed the ducks.
