Newcastle’s 2019 Christmas markets are here… and they are bigger and better than ever!

Check out the difference from 2017-2019!

This year the Christmas market will not only be based at Grey’s Monument but also extended to Blackett Street and Northumberland Street, with the markets starting on Saturday 16 November 2019. Shopping stalls and attractions will be open until Tuesday 24 December 2019, while the street food and drink offering will remain open until New Year’s Eve.

There will be over 70 market stalls; bringing a great variety to the city. The independent traders have been carefully chosen in order to offer the best in quality and diversity of offer. There will be something for everyone including artisan cheeses, homemade chutneys, mead, jewellery, scents, fashion, retro style, eco art and home accessories to offer the discerning visitor.

Not to mention the mouth-watering food on offer… expect gourmet ingredients and a taste of Europe. Visitors will be able to delight their taste buds with a currywurst from Germany, waffles from Holland, paella from Spain and crepes – both sweet and savoury from France plus a whole lot more!

There will be more festive fun in store than ever for visitors in the city centre with exciting new attractions including:

  • A thrilling 30m toboggan slide where riders can whizz down Blackett Street in tubes.
  • A beautiful, traditional carousel will also be on Blackett Street.
  • A novel Helter Skelter bar will be at the Christmas Market, allowing parents to relax with a mulled wine, spiced cider or luxury hot chocolate.
  • Soak up the atmosphere in the brand new, cosy ski lodge themed bar, Après Ski which will be serving drinks throughout the festive period.

Embrace the festive feels with a cosy wander around Newcastle’s Christmas Market – your senses will be overwhelmed with the smell of food and drink from around the world as well as finding gifts for loved ones (and some for you too!)

Why not make a night of it, and enjoy an overnight stay at Hotel Indigo Newcastle. We’re less than a five minute walk away from the festivities!

Brilliant all round

Just returned from a short stay at this hotel. Great central position to go shopping and get to other venues such as st James's park and science museum, Staff were fantastic especially Evie who served us every night of our stay . Room was clean and comfortable even in a heat wave and the Food was delicious (June 2023).
